Yobanashi

Description

This was for an art unit at university, we were allowed any medium with the topic of "Night"

I chose a Japanese tea ceremony which is held at night on Winter Solstice (so there should poooosssibly be snow but I didn't want to draw it so call it artistic licence), which is more commonly known as Yobanashi. A lot of inspiration came from Candle Night.

The lecturer told me she thought it was too strange for a Westerner to take on this kind of content, and she wished I had done a traditional piece (despite a) Not stipulating this and b) Allowing - and PRAISING - some photomanips) so I didn't get a fantastic mark, but I'm still pretty fond of it and the work I put into it. Let's be honest here, my lecturer didn't like me in general because on the first day I dared to deviate from her pencilling method to something I felt comfortable with after my last art lecturer taught it to me.

It is pretty long at full size, the ideal print size (which I happen to have~) is roughly 18 inches tall (from memory).

There are brushes used here for the grass that are not mine, unfortunately I've lost the reference sheet. If you recognise any, please let me know :x

Thanks a lot! I actually got upset because not many people like the art lecturer who I had before the one I had for this class, but while he was abrasive and such, I understood why he said things, and his criticism was actually helpful. This woman... I couldn't figure her out at all. I think I started out on the wrong foot in the first class when I was working on the advice of my first lecturer instead of hers, and from then on she had issues with me D:
